When Paul and Shirley Tinsley chose to build a Monolithic Dome home in Cudjoe Key, Florida, they had no idea that they were building a home that would withstand not one, but two Category 4 hurricanes in six years: Hurricane Irma, in August of 2017, and Hurricane Ian, in September 2022.

The Tinsley Monolithic Dome home is a three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom residence in Cudjoe Key, Florida. Situated onto an 800-square-foot (74.3 m²) lot between a boat canal and the Atlantic Ocean, the home includes a swimming pool and a boat dock—and it has already survived two hurricanes virtually unscathed.

All Monolithic Domes need regular maintenance and coating. This home’s exterior hadn’t been touched in 20 years! Needless to say, it desperately needed a fresh coating and a new awning. For this project, we used a Gaco acrylic coating. We are now dealers for this product and plan to use it on many coating jobs coming down the pike.

It may not be a Monolithic Dome, but it is stunning. The Sphere at The Venetian Resort is a giant music and entertainment venue near the Las Vegas Strip. It features a 516-foot diameter (157 m) three-quarter sphere covered with a staggering 64,600 square feet (54,000 m²) of LEDs—creating the world’s largest LED wall. It is now the largest spherical building in the world. Inside, the auditorium will seat 18,600. The Sphere is set to open on September 29, 2023.
