“[So] They Won’t Be Scared”: Why the Kickapoo Childcare Center Chose a Monolithic Dome
Tornadoes sweep through Oklahoma and Kansas every year, and people take cover as best they can in storm shelters and basements. At the Kickapoo Community Childcare Center, the staff saw the fear on the little faces of their students every time tornado warning sirens sounded, and they wanted to find a way to keep children safe and secure in all weather. Their solution was to build a Monolithic Dome.

Kickapoo Community Childcare Center
The Kickapoo Community Childcare Center is a nearly 13,000-square-foot Monolithic Dome just over 30 minutes east of Oklahoma City. The staff at Kickapoo was motivated to build a Monolithic Dome child care center that could double as a storm shelter because they wanted to protect the kids not only from the physical dangers of the many tornados that menace Oklahoma every year, but from the fear they felt each time they had to be stop their classes and run to a secondary tornado shelter.

Charca Casa: The Dome Home by Charca Pond
Designed by Judy South and David B. South and Monolithic designer Larry Byrne, this Monolithic Dome home features a 32-foot expanse of windows in the living room. The Souths wanted to enjoy the views of the pond they had installed in 1990, shortly after purchasing the property. The one acre pond is a spectacular backdrop for the spacious patio.

Don't Let the Cost of Coating Your Dome Catch You off Guard
Monolithic Domes are tough, efficient, and built to last. But there’s one part of every dome that does need attention from time to time. If you ignore it, the fix can turn into an expensive problem. Let’s talk about dome roofs, how long they really last, and the point at which you need to step in and take care of maintenance.

Rolling Up a 114-Foot Monolithic Dome Airform
From the video: “We are at Bruco in Italy, Texas, taking a look inside an Airform that will soon be folded up and shipped for a frac sand storage silo. This Airform measures 114 feet in diameter, 57 feet tall, and has a 76-foot stemwall. It is under light inflation right now, so we can check the seams before they are packed and sent to the jobsite. It is always impressive to stand inside and see the scale of these projects.”
